Volunteers at The Woman's Hospital of Texas give one of their most valuable assets - time. Our dedicated volunteers assist us in achieving our mission by providing comfort services and support to patients, families, visitors and staff.

Adult volunteer opportunities

Adult care and ancillary support

Adult care and ancillary support volunteers provide tremendous value to our hospital staff through administrative office support, assisting our nursing unit secretaries with patient support, and helping our guests navigate the facility by providing much needed information and guidance in our surgical services family waiting rooms.

Volunteer program requirements:

  • All adult program volunteers must be 18 years old or older
  • All volunteers must be fully vaccinated
  • Child life cuddle care program volunteers must be 21 years old or older
  • All volunteer opportunities are a six-month to one-year commitment

NICU cuddle care program

Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) cuddle care program places volunteers in our NICU to cuddle and hold infants who need additional attention. We currently do not have any open shifts or a wait list. We will post when we are accepting applications.

Child life pediatric unit program

The child life pediatric unit program provides playtime opportunities for patients and their siblings in our specially designed playroom. When a patient is unable to go to the playroom, volunteers may take toys and activities to patient rooms and spend time entertaining our young patients in their room. Volunteers will help clean toys, clean the playroom, organize child life supplies, and other tasks as needed. Four hour shifts are available Monday through Friday.

Imaging services

We offer comprehensive imaging services to pediatric and adult patients in our radiology department. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm to greet and welcome patients who arrive for outpatient services, including our outpatient lab.

Day surgery

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas performs more than 5,500 specialty surgeries each year. Volunteers in our day surgery department help greet and welcome our families who are waiting in the surgery waiting room. They also provide family members with real-time updates, if requested by the support person.

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm and shifts are 3 to 4 hours.

Antepartum unit (APU) and labor and delivery

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas delivers more than 11,000 babies a year. Volunteers are needed in our APU and labor and delivery departments to help greet and welcome families as they arrive, and provide directions to various locations throughout the hospital, such as the café.

Volunteers are needed Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am to 9:00pm and shifts are 3 to 4 hours.

Musicians On Call guide

Musicians On Call brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients, families and caregivers in healthcare environments. Volunteers are needed once a month to escort the musician through the hospital to patients and liaising between families and staff. Training is provided by Musicians On Call.
